Linzer Augen
two very traditional Austrian and German cookies dusted with powdered sugar and sandwiched with raspberry jam.
History: Yet another member of the classic Austrian/Bavarian cradle of so many of Europe’s gourmet cookies and pastries. Vienna established the 19th century coffee house culture during the Habsburg empire but much of the good stuff they ate while discussing politics or exchanging gossip originated from Linz, a scenic town near the German –Austrian border. At Russian Cookie House we love to help keep the tradition alive. The recipe was taught to us by a Bavarian lady who got it from her grandmother who learned it from her mother………(talking about “traditional”)
Ingredients: Flour, Butter, Shortening, Sugar, Egg Yolks, Fine Bread Crumbs, Lemon Zest, Raspberry Jam, Confectioner’s Sugar
